Farashganj hold Brothers
Dhaka, March 30: Brothers Union held to a goalless draw with Farashganj Sporting Club in the Grameenphone Bangladesh Premier League at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Friday.
In the hard battle, both teams gave their best effort and had several chances to take the lead but their efforts were spoiled due to lack of good finishers.
With the draw, Brothers Union saw their position in the league table moving one step up from sixth to fifth place with 9 points from 7 matches while Farashganj also moved two steps up from 9th to 7th place with 7 points from the same number of matches.
Farashganj’s best chance came in the 26th minute when their Congolese striker Siyo Zunapio was brought down by Brothers goalie Uttam Barua and referee Mizanur Rahman whistled for penalty. But the Congolese striker’s spot kick hit the crossbar.
Farashganj’s another chance missed by striker Teajieu Metenou Alben in the 85th minute as Cameroonian defender’s header from the penalty area went outside the bar following a free kick from his compatriot midfielder David Mario.
On the other hand, the Gopibag outfits’ best chance came in the 55th minute but Nigerian striker Kingsley Cigozie’s shot was tipped over by Farashganj goalie Shakil.
Kigsley spoiled another chance despite having the open net but his header also missed the post in the 84th minute off Anik’s cross.
Brothers could have taken the lead in the 63rd minute if midfielder Malek’s shot went just an inch over the crossbar.
