Russell thrash Farashganj
Dhaka, April 10: A ten men Sheikh Russell beat Farashganj by 3-0 goals to return to the winning ways in the Grameenphone Bangladesh Premier League at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Tuesday.
Russell who lost the last four matches took their tally to 11 points from nine matches while Farashganj remained on their previous earning of 7 points from the same nine matches.
Sheikh Russell took the lead in an unusual way in the 9th minute when midfielder Anwar Hossian’s corner taken from the left flag hit the far post and crashed into the net (1-0).
Russell’s lead was doubled in the 25th minute when midfielder Anwar sent a cross in the middle of the Farashganj box and Cameroonian midfielder Siankam Emako headed the ball into the path of Alamu Bukola Olalekan, the Nigerian forward beat Farashganj goalie Sultan Ahmed Shakil with an angular placing shot from the middle of the box (2-0).
Russell was reduced to ten men in the 36th minute when Siankam Emako fouled Farashganj midfielder Jahirul Islam Jahir and was sent off. Jahir who was struck in the head by the knee of Emako was later taken to the hospital.
Anwar scored his second and the team’s third in the 56th minute as he beat Shakil with an angular placing shot after Ghanaian Moro Mohammed sent a through pass from the midfield (3-0).
Farashganj forward Akbar Hossain Ridon in the 62nd minute saw his shot saved by Russell goalie Biplob.
