Farashganj upset Muktijoddha
Dhaka, May 10: Farashganj upset Muktijoddha 1-0 riding on the lone strike of their new signing Nigerian Henry Chindo in the first match of the Grameenphone Bangladesh Premier League second phase at the Bangbandhu National Stadium on Thursday.
Siyo Zunapiyo, the Congolese forward of Farashganj wasted the first chance in the 15th minute when Henry Chindo, the new Nigerian forward fed him with a long ball but Zunapiyo’s shot was saved for a corner by Muktiojoddha goalie Mostak.
Zunapiyo however was denied by the crosspiece in the 18th minute when his powerful drive came back from the inside edge.
Muktjoddha came closer to a strike in the 22nd minute but Nasiruddin Chowdhury’s placing was blocked by Farashganj goalie Shakil and Muktjoddha skipper Mamunul Islam blasted the rebounder over the crosspiece.
One minute away from the first half whistle Zunapiyo saw his grounder taken from the top of the box miss the side post.
Henry Chindo missed another opportunity just one minute after re-start as he ran past onrushing goalie Mostak but lost control at the top edge of the box.
However Chindo did not make any mistake in the 83rd minute after he ran down the midfield and beat Mostak with a low shot, the ball deflected off Mostak’s gloves before crashing into the far post net (1-0).
Muktijoddha despite their allout effort failed to score the equalizer.
Farashganj took their tally to 11 from 11 matches while Muktijoddha remained on their previous 21.
