Dhaka, May 17: Dhaka Abahani consolidated its place at the top
of the table with a 2-0 win over Arambagh in the Grameenphone Bangladesh Premier League at the
Bangabandhu National Stadium on Thursday. Abahani went ahead in the 9th minute off penalty
when Arambagh midfielder Jahidul Hasan Dalim fouled winger Jahid Hossain in the
middle of the box and Ghanaian forward Twum Frank converted (1-0) Arambagh and their Nigerian forward Elita Kingsley sank in
frustration in the 44th minute when Elita beat Abahani goalie Shahidul
Alam Sohel with a header but defender shujon cleared the ball from the goal line. Abahani doubled the lead in the 55th minute and
Twum Frank was the scorer again. Fed by Nasir at the top of the box Frank saw
his right footer deflect off the foot of defender Abul Kashem and landed into
the far post net (2-0) Arambagh again came close to a strike in the 71st
minute but Jahidul Hasan Dalim’s 25 yarder was fisted for a corner by Sohel. With the win Abahani remained at the top with 30 points from
12 matches while Arambagh remained on their previous 9 from 12 mathces.
