Arambagh burnt by Lima treble
Dhaka, May 24: Brazilian midfielder Wellinnston De Sauza Lima slammed the seventh hat-trick of the Grameenphone Bangladesh League as Muktijoddha beat Arambagh 4-1 at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Thursday.
With the win Muktijoddha joined Abahnai at the top of the table with 30 points from 14 matches that is one more than Abahani. Arambagh remained on their previous collection of 10 points from 14 matches.
Muktijoddha’s attacking instincts were visible from the very beginning but it was Aranbagh who created the first chance. Nigerian forward Elita Kingsley broke free in the left flank and unleashed left footer, Muktijoddha goalie Masudur Rahman Mostak dived to his left to bring a brilliant save.
Sunday Chizoba, the Nigerian striker of Muktijoddha in the 38th minute dribbled past three defenders but his fierce left footer hit the side post.
In the last minute of the first half Lima put Muktijoddha ahead with one of the best goals of the league. The tall Brazilian shot the a flat free kick from around 40 yards in the far post of Arambagh goalie Biplob Kumar Bishnu (1-0).
The Brazilian doubled the lead in the 59th minute with another long ranger. Taking a Nasiruddin through pass in the left flank Lima put the ball in the far post from left edge of the box (2-0).
Benjamin Cooper, the Liberian striker of Arambagh reduced the margin in the 66th minute heading home a right flank cross of Khalid Ahmed ( 2-1).
Lima completed his hat-trick in the 82nd minute with a fierce grounder after Nasiruddin cut the ball back to him at the top of the box (3-1).
Midfielder Mamunul Islam scored the fourth in the 87th minute with a dipping left footer from the top of the box (4-1)
