Muktis join Abahani at the top

June 7: Muktijoddha continued their winning spree in the Grameenphone
Bangladesh League with a 2-0 win over Sheikh Russell at the Bangabandhu
National Stadium on Thursday.
Muktijoddha
Sangsad went ahead in the 8th minute when striker Sunday Chizoba netted his 11th goal in the league. Muktijoddha
forward Emily snatched a ball from Russell midfielder Manik and fed Sunday with
a nice through pass, Sunday hit the back of the net with a fierce left footer
(1-0)
Rusell
came close to a goal in the 15th but their effort went in vain by Muktis goal keeper Maksudur Rahman Mostak as
he punched Russel midfielder Emon Babu’s shot
for a corner. Two minutes later Russell missed another chance to
equalize as Ghanaian defender AbbasInusah’s head went inches over the
crosspiece off a Emon Babu’s corner.
Muktis were disappointed in the 19th minute
when defender Ariful’s header hit the sidebar on a Mamunul Islam’s cross from
the right flank.
After
resumption, Emily again let his team doen in the 46th minute as his placing
missed the open net on a rebounder after Nasir Uddin Chowdhury’s shot was punched by custodian
Biplob.
However
Emily scored the second in the 70th minute after Sundy curved a chip in the
middle of the Russell box and Emily was able to slot the ball in his second
attempt.
With
the win Muktijoddha touched Abahani at
the top of the table with 37 points from 17 matches. Russell remained on their
previous earning of 25 from 17 matches.
