Dhaka, June 8: Dhaka Abahani consolidated their position at the top of the table with a 3-0 win over Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club in the GrameenphoneBangladesh Premier League at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Friday. With the win Abahani took their point to 40, three more than second placed Muktijoddha from 17 matches. Jamal remained on their previous earning of 24 from 17 matches. Abahani took the lead in the 12th minute as Ghanaian playmaker Awudu Ibrahim curved a free kick from about 35 yards and midfielder Pranotosh headed the ball home (1-0). Jamal piled up pressure and came close to a strike in the 27th minute but their Nigerian forward Joseph Afusi failed to tap in a Monaem Khan Raju cross from handshaking distance. In the very first minute after the break Abahani doubled the margin. Midfielder Jahid sped past the defence from the midfield and was tackled from the back by Jamal defender Raihan at the top of the box. Twum Frank converted the penalty (2-0) Kester Akon, the Nigerian forward of Jamal saw his placing shot miss the Abahani side post in the 52nd minute. Carlos Da Silva, the Brazilian forward of Abahani wasted two chances in the 54th and 58th minutes as he failed to beat substitute Jamal goalie Ashim Kumar Das from close range. Twum Frank sealed the fate of the match in the 74th minute after Awudu curved a nice chip and Frank headed the ball home from the top of the six yard box. (3-0)
