Muktijoddha beat BJMC
Dhaka, June 14: Muktijoddha
Sangsad KC continued their winning spree beating Team BJMC 2-0 in the
Grameenphone Bangladesh Premier League at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on
Thursday.
Muktijoddha went
up to the top with Abahani Limited with 40 points from 18 matches while Team
BJMC remained their previous earning of 27 points from 17 matches. Abahani Ltd
played one match less than Muktijoddha.
Muktijoddha went
close to score the opener in the 26th minute when Mithun Chowdhury’s clumsy
header went wide following a cross of Shakil Ahmed from the right flank.
Second-choice goalkeeper Maksudur Rahman
Mostak produced a superb save in the 42nd minute. BJMC’s Ajagun Abdul Rasheed
fired a shot from just outside the d-box, Mostak dived to right full to deny
the Nigerian forward.
Muktijoddha had the most glorious opportunity
in the 60th minute. Nigerian forward Sunday Chizoba snatched a ball from
Ashraful Karim at the edge of the penalty area and cut back the ball to Emily.
The national forward, having no defender around, had nothing much to do but to
tap the ball into the empty net instead he shot too wide.
However,
Muktijoddha continued to put more pressure on opponents as their persistence
finally paid off in the 69th minute when Sunday scored the opener. The
Nigerian forward just entered into the box and skipped past two defender and slotted
the ball past goalkeeper Mazharul Islam Himel after a ball fed by left winger
Shakil. (1-0)
Sunday doubled the
lead and scored his second of the evening in the 80th minute. Sunday took a pass
on the edge of the box and smashed an unstoppable shot with his right foot past
the despairing Himel. (2-0)
With the brace,
Sunday took his goal tally to 13, jointly at the top along with Lucky Paul and
Ismail Bangoura.
