Dhaka, October 16: Sheikh Russell moved into the semifinal of the Grameenphone Federation Cup with a lucky 1-0 win over Feni Soccer in the 1st quarterfinal at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Tuesday. The first half remained goalless as Sheikh Russell forwards failed to score a goal though they crated a number of chances. In the 16th minute Mithun’s goal bound placing was cleared by Feni Soccer defender Shimul, in the 18th minute Anwar missed to head the ball into the open net. Even the crosspiece arrived as an obstacle against Russell as Emily saw his header on a Mithun corner hit the woodwork in the 37th minute. After the break Russell piled all the pressure and in the very first minute Haitian Sony Norde hit the crosspiece again. In the 57th minute Sony Norde saw his shot saved twice by a diving Feni Soccer goalie Al-Amin. In the extra time Russell continued to miss the opportunities with Emily’s head flying past the side post and Mithun placing wide from a close range. However it was an unfortunate moment for Feni Soccer in the 112th minute when Russell winger Ashraf Mahmud Linkon’s cross from the left edge of the box deflected off the head of Feni defender Arafat Rony and landed into the far post net (1-0)
