Jamal reach Final
Dhaka, October 20: Holders Sheikh Jamal moved into the final of the Grameenphone Federation Cup beating Muktijoddha by 2-0 goals in the 2nd semifinal at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Saturday.
Muktijoddha forward Md. Biplob wasted the first chance in the 9th minute as he was in a one-to-one position with Jamal goalie Mostak but Biplob’s shot was too weak to bother Mostak, who dived to grip the ball.
Jamal took the lead in the 40th minute through their Nigerian forward Mike Otojareri. The tall Nigerian headed a cross of his compatriot Ikechukwu Okemmir in the far post from the edge of the six yard box (1-0).
Thiago Silva, the Brazilian forward of Muktijoddha went though the Jamal defence in the 54th minute but shot over the crosspiece.
Mike Otojareri was unlucky in the 80th minute as his placing off a long ball of Shakil beat out of position Muktijoddha goalie Zia but rolled past the sidepost.
Arup Baidya sealed the fate of the match in the 87th minute as he put an angular shot past Zia after Shakil fed him with a nice though pass.
Jamal will meet Sheikh Russell in the final on Monday.
