Dhaka, October 22: Sheikh Russell Krira Chakra won their first
major title in the local football beating Sheikh Jamal 2-1 in a highly competitive
final of the Grameenphone Federation Cup at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on
Monday.
All the three goals were scored in the extra time after the
90 minutes ended goalless.
Russell was the livelier side in the initial minutes and
they created a number of opportunities in the first quarter.

Linkon broke through the defence in the 2nd minute but his left
footer went straight to Jamal goalie Mostak.
Three minutes later Moroccan forward Mohammed AbouKacem saw
his header off a Linkon corner fly over the Jamal crosspiece.
Jamal took time to settle down and began to hit back after
the half hour mark and their Nigerian forward Mike Otojareri, fed by his compatriot
midfielder Ikechukwu Okemmiri failed to beat Russell goalie Biplob in a
one-to-one situation.
Russell however was unfortunate in the 40th
minute when AbouKacem’s angular placing shot went past onrushing Mostak but hit
the side post.
In the 60th minute, Mike Otojareri again headed
over one a cross of left back Yeamin Ahmed Chowdhury. Yeamin three minutes
later curved another cross but this time Joseph Ozurumba’s head was fisted by
goalie Biplob.Russell’s Haitian forward Sony Norde run past the Jamal
defence in the 81st minute but his grounder landed straight in the
lap of Jamal goalie Mostak.
Mike Otojareri broke the deadlock in the 95th minute
as Russell goalie Biplob dived to his
right to stop a Joseph Ozurumba shot but the ball bounced out of his grip, Mike
Otojareri standing nearby took control and slammed it in the far post (1-0)
However Emily eqalized in the 114th minute as he
headed a Mamunul Islam cross in the far post of Mostak and kept Russell alive
in the final. (1-1)
And Sony Norde sealed the fate of the match in the stoppage
time of the extra time with a fierce left footer after Mamunul fed him a nice
through pass. Mostak failed to take control of the shot and the ball hit the
back of the net (2-1)
