Dhaka, November 29: Holders Dhaka Abahani continued their winning spree in the Grameenphone Bangladesh Premier League with a 2-0 win over Brothers Union at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Thursday. It was the third consecutive win for Abahani who are at the top of the table with nine points while Brothers Union crashed to its third consecutive defeat. Brothers Union’s Brazilian forward Servalli Fabio missed a penalty in the 12th minute after his compatriot forward Malhorca Anderson was brought down in the middle of the box by Abahani defender Shujon. Savio shot straight to Abahani goalie Shahidul Alam Sohel. Generaso Da Silva, the Brazilian forward of Abahani invaded the opponent territory in the 16th minute but his side volley was punched by Brothers goalie Piru and hit the side post. Malhorca Anderson curved a free kick from 20 yards out in the 43rd minute but Abahani goalie Sohel dived full to make it a corner. Three minutes after the re-start Da Silva broke the deadlock with a perfect headwork. The Brazilian rose at the top of the six yard box and headed Atikur Rahman Mishu’s cross in the near post (1-0). Da Silva doubled the lead in the 61st minute with brilliant solo effort. Carrying the ball from the midfield he outran two defenders and also onrushing Piru to place the ball in the far post (2-0).
