Dhaka, December 4: Bangladesh faces hosts Sri Lanka in a do-or-die battle of the Mahinda Rajapaksah International Football at the Jayathilake Stadium, Nawalapitiya, Sri Lanka at 4:00 pm BST on Wednesday.
It is a must win situation for Bangladesh U-23 as they lost the opening encounter to Pakistan by 1-0 margin. The hosts, however also tasted defeat as Maldives reaped a 3-0 victory over them in the other match of the opening day.
After a tough day’s play Bangladesh coach Saiful Bari Titu thought to give some sort of rest to his players and the Bangladesh team went through a session Aquatic Therapy and later a light practice session.
Titu put a brave face against the odds. “As Sri Lanka has lost their 1st match against Maldives so it’s obvious that they will try to regain their pride against us. They have good physique and they are playing in their home but I think we have the ability to win the match. We missed our first match due to one mistake in defense and also we missed couple of scoring chances. However, we are not looking in the past. We are fully concentrated towards the tomorrow’s match. We believe, we still have the chance to reach the final” said Titu.
Sampat Perera, the head coach of Sri Lanka believes that his team will bounce back in the tournament. “We know Bangladesh is a very strong team and technically good. But tomorrow definitely our team will fight back. In the first match we had some problems in our defense. We have worked in the weak areas and I think we have overcome the problem” Sampat.
