Dhaka, December 5: Bangladesh crashed out of the Mahinda Rajapaksah International Football conceding a 1-0 defeat against hosts Sri Lanka at the Jayathillake Stadium, Nawalapitiya, Sri Lanka on Wednesday. Substitute Prasad scored the winner in the 69th minute of the match Bangladesh paid the toll of poor finishing as the forward line again failed to rise on the occasion. Forwards Shakhawat Hossian Rony, Sohel Rana and Touhidul Alam came close to a couple of scoring chances but their failure resulted in successive 1-0 defeat to Bangladesh. Sri Lanka launched the first attack in the 10th minute but Fazil’s head on a cross of Ihsan missed the side post. Bangladesh replied with a counter attack but Sohel Rana was out possessed by defender Hakeem at the Sri Lankan goalmouth. Defender Keshto was in his brilliant best in the 27th minute as he shrugged off the danger by clearing a dangerous cross of Fazil. Sri Lanka piled up pressure in the following minutes and goalie Mostak denied Farhad with a nice save. Rony in the 30th minute carried a good pass of Sohel Rana into the opponent box but shot straight to Sri Lankan goalie Sujan Perera. In the 40th minute, Touhid had no clue as he shot up over the crosspiece after Linkon cut a nice cross from the right flank. Bangladesh’s frustration mounted up as Rony and Touhid both wasted two chances in the 50th and 55th minute by shooting over and Sohel Rana followed the suit with another cracker that whistled past the side post. Bangladesh survived from conceding a goal in the 62nd minute as Ihsan’s shot rebounded off the side post but seven minutes, in the 69th minute, later Prasad broke the deadlock with a glancing header. Bangladesh completes the formalities with the last match against Maldives on Friday. In the first match of the day Maldives confirmed their final by beating Pakistan by 1-0 goal.
