Dhaka, December 14: Defending champions Dhaka Abahani was held to a goalless draw by Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club in the Grameenphone Bangladesh Premier League at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Friday. With both the teams exchanging a few attacks it was Sheikh Jamal who got the first opportunity in the 11th minute. Nigerian forward Mike Otojareri receiving a through pass of his compatriot Sunday Chizoba shot past the sidepost when the Abahani players thought he will be called off-side. In the 14th minute Jamal’s another Nigerian attacker Kester Akon entered the Abahani defence through the right flank and curved a low cross in the middle of the box, Abahani goalie Sohel dived forward to punch the ball to safety. Abahani initiated a number of attacks but Awudu Ibrhaim’s effort in the 44th minute was the notable one. Nigerian forward Lucky Paul Otofe cut the ball back to Awudu at the top of the box and the Ghanaian saw his curved shot miss the crosspiece by a few inches. Jamal midfielder Alamgir Kabir Rana missed a chance to break the deadlock in the 53rd minute as he was found the ball unmarked in a close range but instead of taking a shot he decided to head the ball to Kester allowing Abahani defenders to clear. In the counter attack very next minute Lucky Paul Otofe and Touhidul Alam both missed the line of a cross curved by Awudu Ibrahim. A tap would have been enough the send the ball in but both the players missed. In the 72nd minute Sohel again denied Kester by falling into the forwards feet after Alamgir Rana paved the way for his Nigerian teammate. The draw however saw both the team having 10 points each from four matches and remain at the top of the table.
