Dhaka, December 19: Khilgaon Football Academy clinched the title of the Dhaka City Corporation (North & South) Pioneer Football League beating Matuail Udayan Sangsad by 5-3 goals in the penalty shootout at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Wednesday. The stipulated 80 minutes finished goalless. Earlier Khilgaon dominated all through the match but failed to score a goal. Matuail was in the receiving end and hardly bothered their opponents. Md Rejaul Karim, the number ten jersey of Khilgaon was the attacking spearhead and tormented the Matuail defence but failed to convert the chances to a goal. In the 10th minute Khilgaon winger Md Jintu curved a cross and Rejaul placed the ball over the crosspiece from the middle of the box. In the 40th minute Jintu curved a free kick but Matuail goalie Md. Titu who saved his team from conceding a goal on a number of occasions dived full to grip the ball. Khigaon was unfortunate in the 58th minute when midfielder Shafayatur Rahman saw his head on corner of skipper Md. Mithu hit the crosspiece and cleared by a opposition defender. In the 70th minute Jintu’s fierce left footer from the middle of the box was punched to safety by goalie Titu again. With the stipulated time finishing goalless the match went to the shootout and Md. Mithu, Bijoy Sarker, Md. Babu, Md. Jintu and Shafayatur Rahman converted the spot kicks. Matuail’s Md. Shamim, Yar Mohammed, Md. Jesy converted the penalties but Faisal Ahmed’s shot was saved by Khilgaon goalie Aminul Islam and that made all the difference. Matulail Udayun Sangsad goalkeeper Md. Titu was adjudged Man of Match.
State minister for youth and sports Ahad Ali Sarker distributed the prizes as the chief guest.
