Dhaka, February 8: Brothers Union held holders Dhaka Abahani 1-1 in the Grameenphone Bangladesh Premier League at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Friday.
Abahani took the lead in the 6th minute through their in form Nigerian forward Lucky Paul Otofe who beat Brothers goalie Piaruzzaman Piru with a quick placing shot on a push of midfielder Yoko Samnick (1-0) But Brothers Union’s Nigerian defender Adams Jankasha pulled his team back into the game when he dribbled past a couple of defenders and passed the ball to his Brazilian teammate Garcia Anderson. Anderson placed the ball into the far post but saw Abahani goalie Sohel dive to his left to stop the ball, Sohel however failed to keep the ball in his gloves and Jankasha tapped the ball in (1-1) In the 30th minute Brothers Union’s midfielder Komol Islam’s placing on Garcia Anderson cross missed the Abahani sidepost by a few inches In 67th minute Lucky Paul Otofe saw his head on a cross of Touhidul Alam slip from the gloves of diving Brothers goalie and roll out for a corner. Brothers hit back with a fierce counterattack and in the 70th and Kingsley Chigozie found Sohel in a one to one situation but the Abahani goalie dived into his feet to save his team for a corner. In the 77th minute Yoko Samnick’s glancing header on a cross of Touhidul Alam land straight into the lap of Piru. In the 87th minute Garcia Andrson missed the Abahani net from the middle of the box after Kingsley Chigozie sent a square pass from the left flank. In the stoppage time Brothers defender Khan Sharif saved his team from a sure defeat by clearing a Lucky Paul Otofe pushed from the goal line. The draw took Abahani’s tally to 24 points from 11 matches while Brothers Union earned 9 points from 11 matches.
