Dhaka, February 17: Dhaka Abahani played out a 1-1 draw against Sheikh Russell in the Grameenphone Bangladesh Premier League at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Sunday. Awudu Ibrahim scored the equalizer in the last minute of the stoppage time for the defending champions. Russell took the lead in the 13th minute with forward Mithun Chowdhury placing the ball past Abahani goalie Sohel. Winger jahid Hossain provided the square pass to Mithun from the right flank (1-0). In the 26th minute Abahani came closer to a equalizer in the 26th minute when midfielder Abdul Baten Majumder Komol headed the ball to Awudu Ibrahim, but the Ghanaian forward placed the ball wide of the sidepost. Russell’s Haitian forward Sony Norde was asking himself what went wrong in the 51st minute when he placed the ball straight to Sohel in a one-to-one situation. Cameroonian midfielder of Abahani Yoko Samnick failed to volley the ball in the 67th minute from the middle of the box when Waly Faisal curved a cross from the left flank. Awudu Ibrahim scored the equalizer in the last minute of the 5th minute added time when Mishu curved a corner from the right hand flag, Twum Frank headed it in and Awudu Ibarhim back heeled the ball into the net. (1-1). The draw saw Abahani remain at the top with 28 points from 13 matches while Russell have 26 from 12 matches.
