Dhaka, March 2: Bangladesh lost to Palestine by 1-0 goal in the opening match of the group D AFC Challenge Cup qualifiers at the Dasharath Stadium, Kathmandu on Saturday.
Haytham Theeb of Palestine scored the match winner in the 78th minute. Bangladesh adopted a defensive strategy and played in a 4-3-2-1 formation. Palestine initiated their first attack in the and Linkon’s fouls on IIyad, awarded a free kick to Palestine. Husam curved the shot but a lovely save by goalie Sahidul Alam Sohel kept Bangladesh safe. In the 17th minute Bangladesh forward Shakahwat Hossain Rony shot wide from a one-to-one situation with the Palestine goalie. Three minutes after the resumption Linkon’s free kick from the top of the box flew over the crosspiece. Haytham Theeb scored the lone goal in the 78th minute from a goal mouth melee.
