Dhaka, March 6: Bangladesh wrapped up their AFC Challenge Cup group D qualifiers with a 4-0 win over Northern Mariana Islands at the Dasrath Stadium, Kathmandu on Wednesday. Forward Tokils Ahmed scored the opener in the very first minute and added his second in the 83rd minute. Shakhwat Hossain Rony scored the third goal of Bangladesh in the 38th minute and Md. Linkon added the fourth in the stoppage time. Rony missed the penalty in the 12th minute.
Bangladesh has six points with the two wins and hosts Palestine and Nepal lock horns in the last match of the group today.
The opportunity of Bangladesh qualifying as one of the two best runners-up teams are still alive.
Besides the group champions, the two best runners-up from five groups advances to the final round scheduled to be held in Maldives next year.
In Group A that is hosted by Myanmar. India is atop of the points table with six points from two matches and Myanmar has four points. The teams lock horns in the last group match on Wednesday and if India wins the or even draws Myanmar will be out of the meet. In group C away at Laos Afghanistan leads the table with six points and Laos are positioned second with four points. Both the teams will play the last match late Wednesday and if Laos lose Bangladesh’s chance will brightened up. The qualifiers of group B and group E will conclude on March 21st and 26th respectively.
