Dhaka, March 7: Lodewijk de Kruif, the Dutch head coach of Bangladesh national football team is overall impressed with his players and believes Bangladesh can go higher with proper training.
Bangladesh national team returned to Dhaka on Thursday after finishing runners-up in group D of the AFC Challenge Cup Qualifiers behind Palestine with six points. Lodewijk de Kruif and his assistant Rene Koster however flew to Amsterdam from the airport as they came to take the responsibility for the qualifiers acknowledging the request of BFF president Kazi Salahuddin.
De Kruif expressed satisfaction with the performances. “With just less than two weeks of preparation Bangladesh went to Nepal and played three matches against three opponents who play different styles of football, Palestine was strong built and physical, Nepal was boosted by their home advantage and Northern Mariana Island was also physically well built and adopted a total defensive strategy, the boy’s coped well with the pressure” said De Kruif.
However the Dutch coach saw his boys need more physical fitness. “I have observed that the players have to get fitter for further international challenges, we also have to work in the technical and tactical aspects, but I am happy with the level of feedback I received from the boys and they worked hard to implement what they have been taught, however fall of concentration in the finishing stages was also a subject of concern” said the Dutch man.
“Overall I am happy and finished my first assignment with a positive note and believe Bangladesh can go to the higher level what I will try to do after returning in June” added de Kruif.
Rene Koster said he has tried to teach to play with the short pass and a lot of running and the players responded well but he thought to make Bangladesh a formidable outfit the level of fitness must go high.
