Dhaka, March 17: Mohammedan Sporting Club trounced Bangladesh Navy 2-0
in the second match of ATN Bangla Independence Cup Football Final round at the Bangabandhu
National Stadium on Sunday. Mohammedan could have been taken the lead in the 7th minute
but midfielder Maruf Ahmed’s curling free kick was saved by Navy goalie Parvez who dived to his right. Ghanaian striker Osei Morrison missed another chance in the 23rd
minute after having a one to one situation with Navy goalie. The Ghanaian shot straight
to Navy goalie after controlling a through pass from Nigerian midfielder Udeh
Damia Chigozie. Defender Tapu Barman put Mohammedan ahead in the 45th minute by a
fierce shot from the right after capitalizing long cross from Md. Yasin from
the midfield. (1-0) Osei Morrison doubled the lead in the 62nd minute with an
angular shot from the box. (2-0) Mohammedan’s lead could have
been gone to three in the 80th minute but Shariful Islam’s solo
efforts went in vein after his shot hit the outside of the net though the net
was open.
