Dhaka, March 18: Sheikh Russell made a winning start in the ATN Bangla
Independence Cup football group B beating Brothers Union 3-2 at the Bangabandhu
National Stadium on Monday. Nigerian striker Kingsley Chigozie put Brothers Union ahead in the 16th
minute with a powerful shot after going past Russell’s defender Abbas Yunusah.
(1-0) Zahid Hasan Ameli restored the parity in the 23rd minute when
wily forward tapped in a cross of forward Anowar Hossain from the left flank. (1-1) Kingsley Chigozie again gave the lead for Brothers in the 33rd
minute. The Nigerian placed the inside the net over advancing Russell goalie
Biplop on a cross of midfielder Jamal.
(2-1) Haitian forward Sony Norde leveled the score in the 55th
minute with a clinical finish. After capitalizing a through pass of Moroccan midfielder Tarik El Janaby, the
forward dodged past onrushing Brothers goalie Sobuj Das Roghu and sent the ball
into the net (2-2). Emily put Russell into the lead in the 77th minute heading
a Sony Norde free kick in the far post. (3-2)
