Dhaka, March 22: Abahani Ltd continued their winning spree in the ATN Bangla Independence Cup with a 2-1 victory over Brothers Union in a group B match at the Kamapapur Stadium on Friday. Abahani who earlier beat Farashganj 2-0 remained focused for a semifinal slot while Brothers who earlier lost 3-2 to Sheikh Russell saw them out of the meet with one match to go. Midfielder Abdul Baten Majumdar Komol put Abahani ahead in the 20th minute as his precise header on a cross of Atikur Rahman Mishu landed in the far post net of Brothers goalie Sabuj Das Roghu (1-0) Two minutes later Abahani doubled the lead through their Ghanaian midfielder Twum Frank. Komol cut a low cross form the left flank, Lucky Paul Otofe passed it back to Frank who placed the ball in the near post with a flat footed placing shot (2-0). Brothers hit back with their Nigerian forward Kingsley Chigozie in the added time of the first half. Nigerian midfielder Samson Illiasu send a neat through to Kingsley who tapped the ball past advancing Abahani goalie Shahidul Alam Sohel (2-1) Brothers defender Khan Sharif saved his team from conceding another goal in the 78th minute as Lucky Paul Otofe beat advancing Roghu at the top of the box but his angular shot was kicked away by Sharif from the goal line.
