Dhaka, March 29: Muktijoddha sealed a semifinal slot of the ATN Bangla
Independence Cup football with a 1-1 draw against Team BJMC in the last match of
the group C at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Friday. Both the teams earned five points each but Muktijoddha who has a
better goal difference of +3 emerged as the group champions. BJMC’s goal average
was +2 and they finished as the group runners-up. However only the group
champion of the group moves through the semis. Muktijoddha moved ahead in the 12th minute through their
striker Md. Yousuf. Nigerian forward Darlington curved a cross from the right to
Rokonuzzaman Kanchan whose volley went to unmarked Md. Yousuf and the dark and
dapper striker made no mistake to place the ball into the net. (1-0) BJMC’s Cameroonian midfielder Jean
Julles Ikanga missed an easy chance having one to one situation in the 22nd
minute when he shot straight to
Muktijoddha custodian Ziaur Rahman on a pass of striker Toklis Ahmed.Kanchan squandered a chance to double the lead in the 45th
minute. BJMC defender Saif failed to clear
a cross of Darlington close to the box and the ball went to unmarked Khanchan
whose left footer hit the outside net. Team BJMC came very close to goal in the 64th minute but
Guinean striker Ismael Bangoura’s free kick was saved by Muktijoddha custodian
Zia who punched the ball over the crosspiece. In the 68th minute Muktijoddha’s Nigerian defender Eleta Benjamin fouled BJMC
midfielder Abdullah Parvez in the middle of the box and referee duly pointed to
the penalty spot. Guinean forward Ismael Bangoura restored the parity off the
penalty (1-1) In the 90th minute Muktijoddha forward Yusuf saw his
placing on a Darlington cross beat Aminul but hit the crosspiece.
