Dhaka, March 30: Abahani Limited lifted the title of the Walton
Metropolis Women Football League beating Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited 3-1 in
the final at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Saturday.
Aung Mra Ching Marma put Abahani ahead in the 3th minute
with a chip over the advancing Mohammedan goalie Moli after intercepting a ball
from Mohammedan’s defender. (1-0)
Forward Lizu of Mohammedan restored the parity in the 21st
minute as she saw her left footer volley hit the top of the net on a cross of midfielder
Mukta from the right. (1-1)
Abahani took the lead again through their right winger Suraya Khatun who
headed the ball into near post by diving on a cross of Mainui Marma from the left flank in the 35th
minute. (2-1)
Striker Sabina Khatun of Mohammedan squandered an opportunity to level
the score in the 42 minute when her shot missed the post having one to one
situation with Abahani goalie Sabina Akter.
Captain Suinu Pru Marma sealed the victory for Abahani in the 75th
minute with a long free kick from the midfield as Mohammedan’s goalie Moli
misjudged flight of the ball. (3-1)
Sabina Khatun was adjudged Best Player of the League”, Aung Mra Ching
Marma of Abahani became “Highest Scorer of the League” and Arambagh Krira Sangha were
awarded with “Fair Play Trophy”.
Director General of BTV M. Hamid was present as chief guest and
distributed the prizes among the winners. Senior Deputy Director of RB Group
Iqbal Bin Anowar was present as special guest. BFF Women Wing Deputy Chairman
Mahfuza Akter Kiron, BFF General Secretary Abu Nayeem Shohag and other officials
of BFF and Walton were also present on the occasion.
