Russell reach final

31: Sheikh Russell Krira Chakkra stormed into the final of Independence Cup Football Tournament beating Muktijoddha
Sanghsd Krira Chakkra 1-0 in the second semifinal at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Sunday.
Russel came
close to a goal in the 27th minute but Mithun Chowdhury failed to
connect the ball from a low cross of winger Jahid Hosain.
In the 33
minute another chance was missed by winger Jahid Hossain when he failed to
connect properly off Haitian striker Sony Norde’s free kick.
Muktijoddha
had a chance to move ahead in the 36 minute but their Nigerian Striker Darlington
header went wide on a cross of Mithun Chowdhury from the left.
Sony Norde
broke the deadlock and scored winning goal in the 52th minute with a clinical finish as the
Haitian dodged past opponent’s Nigerian defender Benjamin Eleta and onrushing goalie
Ziaur Rahman and placed the ball into the middle of the net after capitalizing
a through pass from midfielder Mithun Chowdhury. (1-0)
Ziaur Rahman
saved Muktijoddha to conceding another goal in the 57th minute by
griping a powerful shot of Jahid Hossain from the edge of the box.
Striker
Jahid Hasan Ameli squandered an opportunity to double the margin when his placing shot
missed the post on a cross of Sony Norde from the left flank.
Sheikh Russell
Krira Chakkra will face Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club in the final on Tuesday at the same stadium.
