Dhaka, April 1: Sheikh Russell lock horns with Sheikh Jamal in the final of the ATN Bangla Independence Cup football final at 7:00 pm at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Tuesday. Sheikh Russell Krira Chakra won their first major title in the local football beating Sheikh Jamal 2-1 in a highly competitive final of the Grameenphone Federation Cup at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on October 22nd. All the three goals were scored in the extra time after the 90 minutes ended goalless. However both the teams opted not to recall the past and rather chose to focus upon the jobs ahead. “We formed the team to win every title of the season and after winning the Federation Cup now its time to win the Independence Cup, we are capable of beating Sheikh Jamal and the only weakness we have is we are playing three tough matches in five days, we beat them in the Federation Cup final but it’s a new day and new match” said Maruful Haque, the coach of Sheikh Russell. Joshef Afusi, the Nigerian coach of Sheikh Jamal however expressed his strong desire to win the title. “Sheikh Russell is a strong team but they are not unbeatable, we have lost against them but the final will be a different game and we will come out with all the guns firing to win the title and we believe we can co it” said Afusi. The winners will receive a purse of Tk five lakhs while the runners-up will receive Tk. three lakhs.
