Dhaka, May 21: Philippines beat Iran 6-0 in the opening match of the AFC Women’s Asian Cup group B qualifiers at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Tuesday.
Jesse Anne Shugg scored a brace for the winners.
Philippines took the lead in the very 2nd minute when midfielder Heather Cook headed a Natasha Olaudine Garcia corner into the far post (1-0).
In the 3rd minute Megan Marie Jurado doubled the lead with an angular shot from the top of the box (2-0).
The very next minute Jesse Anne Shugg scored the third with a curving shot from the middle of box after Joana Houplin set her free with a back heel (3-0).
In the 34th minute Iran defender Sarshin Kamangar saw her sliding effort to clear an Anne Shugg cross land into her own net (4-0).
Joana Houplin added her name in the scorers list in the 41st minute as the speedy midfielder sped past the Iranian defence and placed the ball over advancing Iran goalie Maryam Yektaei (5-0).
Iran pulled their first chance in the 67th minute but Sarah Ghomi Marzdashti’s shot on a low cross of Zahra Ghanbari deflected off a defender’s feet.
Anne Shugg scored the sixth in the stoppage time. Making her way through the defence Shugg placed the ball into the far post from the left edge of the box (6-0)
