Dhaka, May 23: Iran beat Bangladesh 2-0 in the AFC Women’s Asian Cup Group B qualifiers at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Thursday.
Maryam Rahimi scored both the goals in the either half of the match. With loss Bangladesh crashed out of the meet. Iran who lost 6-0 to Philippines in their first match will play Thailand in their last match on Saturday.
Maryam Rahimi put Iran ahead in the 26th minute with a cool headed placing shot to beat onrushing Bangladesh goalie Sabina Akhter. Off a quick counter attack midfielder Zahra Ghanbari released a nice through pass and Maryam sent the ball in the far post (1-0)
In the 32nd minute Bangladesh forward Sabina Khatun reacted late on a through pass of Aung Mra Ching Marma.
Bangladesh defender Baly Khatun brought Maryam Rahimi down inside the box in the 33rd minute but Zahra Ghanbari failed to convert the penalty, she shot wide of the side post.
Sabina Khatun, the Bangladesh forward saw her placing miss the sidepost by a whisker in the 35th minute.
Maryam Rahimi added the second in the 51st minute and it was almost the same act as the first one and Zahra was again the provider of the through pass (2-0).
