Brothers grasp Jamal
Dhaka, June 15: Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi club was held to a 1-1 draw by Brothers Union in the Grameenphone Super Cup in Group B at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Saturday.
Sk. Jamal came close to a strike in the 6th minute when defender Arup Badya’s shot from the middle of the box was saved by Brothers goalie Sujon Chowdhury who dived to the left.
Jamal had another chance in the 13th minute to move ahead but midfielder Shakil Ahmed squandered the chance having one-on-one situation with custodian. Shakil’s shot was denied by opponent goalie Sujon on a cross of Raihan.
Brothers could have been taken the lead in the 32nd minute but forward Jewel Rana’s shot went straight to opponent goalie Sultan Ahmed Shakil.
However, Jewel Rana broke the dead lock in the 38th minute with a placing shot on a cross of Komol Islam from the right flank. (1-0)
Jamal came very close to level the score in the 42nd minute but defender Ariful Islam’s header hit the crossbar on a cross of Arup Kumar Baiddya from the left.
In the next minute forward Nasir Uddin Chowdhury spoiled another opportunity when Towhidul Alam Sabuj’s back header on a throw of Rayhan reached to Nasir whose header hit the side post.
At last Jamal leveled the score in the 51st minute through theiir forward Nasir who did not make any mistake to send the ball into the net from spot kick. Jamal defender Arup was brought down by Saddam Hossain and referee whistled for penalty. (1-1)
Shakil Ahmed missed another chance having one-on-one situation with goalie Sujon. The winger’s shot was fisted away by the custodian in the stoppage time.
