Soccer hold Abahani
Dhaka, June 16: Defending champions Dhaka Abahani crashed into a 2-2 draw against Feni Soccer in the group A of the Grameenphone Super Cup at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Sunday.
Abahani were close to a score in the 16th minute but striker Enamul Haque’s right footer from the top of the box on a cutback of midfielder Pranotosh Kumar Das was brilliantly saved by Soccer Club goalie Masud Ahmed Uzzal who dived to the right.
In the 18th minute Abahani wasted their second chance to go ahead but midfielder Atikur Rahman Meshu’s shot was blocked at the goal line by defender Shahinur Rahman Shahin.
Feni Soccer Club came in the game and they made a counter attack in the 32nd minute but their young striker Aminur Rahman Sajib’s shot was saved by Shahidul Alam sohel who dived to the left.
However, Soccer Club’s good luck came in the 45th minute with Sajib who was brought down by Abajhani’s defender Md. Sujon in the box and referee Jashim Uddin rewarded penalty. Ridon converted the spot kick. (1-0)
Abahani leveled the score in the 65th minute when their midfielder Atikur Rahman Meshu’s header on a cross of Shaikat Bhowmik from the left flank hit the back of net. (1-1)
Midfielder Shahedul Alam Shahed put Abahani ahead in the next minute with a fierce angular shot from the box after capitalizing a pass of defender Mohiuddin Ibnul Siraji. (2-1)
Sajib of Soocer club had chance to equalize but his shot missed the post in the 70th minute.
In the 83rd minute Abahani earned a penalty when Touhid was brought down by Mushfiqudin Shimul in the Feni D-box and it resulted in a penalty, but Mishu failed to score from the spot.
Sajib pulled Feni Soccer back into the game with fierce shot from 30 yards in the stoppage time (2-2).
Abahani earlier drew with Muktijoddha while Feni Soccer lost to Sheikh Russell.
