MSC in semis
Dhaka, June 17: Mohammedan Sporting Club moved to the last four
beating Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club 1-0 in the Grameenphone Super Cup Group B
at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Monday.
Mohammedan went ahead through their forward Wahed Ahmed in the 9th
minute of the match. Taking advantage from a misunderstanding of a defender and
goalie Sultan Ahmed Shakil, the wily striker went past Shakil and placed the
ball into middle of the net (1-0).
Sk. Jamal could have been leveled the score in the 12 minute but
Mohammedan goalie Mamun Khan denied the Jamal attackers twice. First time
Alamgir Kabir Rana’s shot was saved by goalie Mamun who dived to the right on
forward Nasir Chowdhury’s cutback. On rebounder Towhidul Alam Sabuj again took
shot but the custodian again cleared it.
Mohammedan midfielder Mezbabul Haque Manik squandered a chance in the
35th minute having one-on-one situation with Jamal goalie as his poor
shot went straight to goalkeeper Shakil on a cross of Sohel Rana.
Jamal’s best opportunity came in the 54th minute when
forward Masud Rana’s header hit the cross piece on a cross of forward Towhidul
Alam Sabuj from the left.
Mohammedan has six points while
Sheikh Jamal has one point with one match to play.
