21: Sheikh Russell Krira Chakkra moved to the final of Grameenphone Super Cup
beating Brothers Union 2-0 in first semifinal at the Bangabandhu National
Stadium on Friday.
Sk. Russell
drew the first blood in the early fourth minute of the match when their striker
Zahid Hasan Emely’s right footer off a cross from winger Nahidul Islam from the
left hit the back of the net. (1-0)
Brothers
were very close to a equalizer in the 25th minute but their young striker
Jewel Rana’s left footed shot was saved by Biplob who fisted away the ball.
However, Russell doubled
the lead in the 29th minute after Brothers defender Ashraful Karim
failed to clear a lob of forward Mithun Chowdhury and it fell to Emely who
cleverly headed home over Bothers goalie Sujon Chowdhury. (2-0)
Next minute winger
Jahid Hossain of Russell squandered a chance to make the score thrice as his
shot was blocked by opponent the custodian.
Brother were
again in the 41st minute unfortunate when their striker Jewel Rana’s shot from the
box was denied by Russell captain cum goalkeeper Biplob Vattacharia a defence spliting
pass from Jamal.
Defender
Ashraful Karim saved Brothers to concede another goal in the injury time of
first half. Winger Mithun chowdhury took a shot from left corner of the box
having opened net but it was cleared by Ashraful from the goal line for corner.
In the second half teams shown attacking football and
Brothers kept the pressure on Russell to reduce the margin and Russell tried to
tripe the lead.
Emely was very near to hat-trick in the super cup but his
spot kick was brilliantly saved by Brothers custodian in the 65th minute.
Brothers’ defender Ashraful handled a ball from the cross of Jahid Hossain from
the right flank and referee Mizanur Rahman rewarded the penalty. Emely’s spot kick went straight to the goalie
Sujon who punched away the ball.
Brothers forward Komol Islam had another chance to put back a goal but his
shot was denied by Biplob who dived to the left in the 82nd minute.

Sanghsad krira Chakkra for the final slot at the same stadium on Saturday.
