Bangladesh draw with India
Dhaka, September 3: Bangladesh drew 1-1 with India in the SAFF Champiohship at the Armed Forces Ground on Tuesday .
Skipper Mamunul Islam was not a part of playing XI while Mobarak Sohel Rana and Omar Faruk Babu was included in the places of Jahid Arif and Wahed.
India came close to a strike in the 10th minute when right back Francisco Fernandes curved a neat cross to forward Sunil Chettry in the middle of the box but Chettry’s volley flew over the crosspiece.
Bangladesh adopted defensive strategy with Jamal Bhuiyan taking the lead role in the midfield of defensive strategy. Bangladesh’s lone attack of the first half came in the 29th minute when Emily’s sudden backheel was saved by Indian goalie Subrata Paul.
Francisco Fernandez threatened Bangladesh again in the 36th minute when Mamun Khan punched a long throw of Maharaj that fell into the feet of Fernandez whose sidevollet flew over the crosspiece.
In the 60th minute Mobark’s low cross was placed by Sohel Rana but it took a deflection and went for a corner.
Skipper Mamunul Islam entered the field in the 80th minute and in his first touch curved a corner that was put into the Indian net with a fierce left footer of Atikur Rahman Mishu (1-0)
In the last minute of the three minute added time Sunil Chettry curved a free kick into the near post of Bangladesh net. (1-1)
Bangladesh play Pakistan on Thursday.
