BD crash out of SAFF
Dhaka, September 5: Bangladesh crashed out of SAFF Championship with a 2-1 defeat against Pakistan in the last match of group A at the Armed Forces Ground on Thursday.
Bangladesh brought three changes with Ariful Islam, Zahid Hossain and Raihan Hasan coming in for Nasiruddin Chowdhury, Tokils Ahmed and Waly Faisal.
Bangladesh started in a bright note with Zahid Hossain running down the left flank and provided a square pass to Emily but Emily’s flick was too weak to beat Pakistan goalie Saqib Hanif.
In the 24th minute Bangladesh goalie Mamun Khan dived to his left to stop a Hasan Bashir header on a cross of Adnan Faruk Ahmed.
Bangladesh took the lead in the 29th minute as Emily’s back head on a long throw of Raihan Hasan beat Pakistan goalie Sakib Hanif in the far post (1-0).
However in the 35th minute Pakistan skipper Samar Ishaq dived forward to head a Adnan Faruk Ahmed corner in the far post of Mamun Khan (1-1)
Emily again came close to a strike when he flicked Sohel Rana’s low free kick but the ball hit the outside net in the 39th minute.
Nine minutes after the break Emily’s fierce right footer on a corner of Sohel Rana was brilliantly saved by Pakistani goalie Saqib Hanif.
In the 70th minute substitute forward Wahed was in a comfortable position to head a Mobarak free kick home but he missed the flight.
In the 72nd minute Hasan Bashir, the Pakistani forward’s powerful grounder was punched to safety by Mamun Khan.
In the 79th minute Pakistani midfielder Zia us Salam was unmarked but he shot just wide of the sidepost.
In the 90th minute substitute Mamunul Islam’s left footer went straight to Saqib Hanif.
But in the second minute of the third minute added time Kaleemullah tapped the winner past Mamun Khan (2-1).
