Abahani outplay MSC 2-0
Dhaka, November 25: Abahani Ltd. topped the group D in their way to quarterfinal of the Walton Federation Cup beating Mohammedan 2-0 at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Monday.
Abahanj took the lead in the 11th minute as Brazilian midfielder Luiz de Castro headed a free kick curved by Touhidul Alam from the left flank into the near post of Mamun Khan (1-0)
Mohammedan piled up pressure and in the 16th minute Zahid Hossain’s defence splitting though was placed by Emily but Abahani goalie Sohel brought out a reflex save with his right foot.
In the 19th minute Emily and Nigerian forward Chuka Charles played a one-two and Chuka managed to go past the defence but shot in the outside net from a close distance.
In the added time of the first half Vincent Hemanta Biswas’s placing on square pass of Chuka Charles was too weak to disturb Abahani goalie Sohel.
In the 62nd minute Abahani’s Brazilian midfielder Luiz de Castro’s 25 yarder was saved for a corner by Mohammedan goalie Mamun Khan.
However Osei Morrison sealed the fate of the match in the 76th minute with a well worked goal. Touhid danced down the left flank and sent a low cross to Morrisson whose placing hit the side post, but the Ghanaian regained his balance and tapped the ball into the near post (2-0)
As the group champions Abahani will play against Feni Soccer in the quarterfinals while Mohammedan will face Sheikh Jamal in the last eight match.
