Muktis beat Russell 2-1
Dhaka, January 21: Muktijoddha Sangsad KC beat defending champions Sheikh Russell by 2-1 goals in the Bangladesh Premier League at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Tuesday.
Muktijoddha went up ahead in the 23rd minute when attacking midfielder Enamul Haque hit the near post net with a grounder from the right edge of the box. Enamul got the ball after a shot of Nigerian forward Elita Kingsley deflected off a Russell defender and he made no mistake (1-0)
Muktijoddha increased their margin in the 51st minute as defender Mohiuddin ibnul Siraji’s through pass reached Nigeran forward Nkowcha Kingsley and he beat the off-side trap before beating Russell goalie Biplob with powerful grounder (2-0)
Moroccan forward Younnes Roux hit back for Russell in the 73rd minute after he took control of a defence splitting through of Mithun Chowdhury and placed a left footer past Muktijoddha goalie Russell Mahmud Liton (2-1)
In the 83rd minute Russell’s Jamaican midfielder Ricardo Cousins hit the sidepost with a free kick.
Muktijoddha has seven points from five matches while Russell who tasted their second defeat has nine points from the same number of matches.
