Apr 20, Dhaka: Rahmatganj pulled off a surprising 1-1 draw against Sheikh Russel in the Bangladesh Leg at the Bangabandhu National Stadium today.
Rahmatganj, a distant fourth in the table behind third-placed Russel, moved to 19 points after 16 rounds while Russel’s hopes to finish second in the professional league further dented after the draw saw them collect 40 points from 17 outings.
Sheikh Russel’s Moroccan reqruit Salah Maslouh opened the scoring in the 16th minute after getting the ball inside the penalty zone from Rajan Miah.
Salah got another good chance from a headed pass by Sameer in the 37th minute but he could not utilize the chance this time. Sameer also missed an opportunity when he got the rival goalkeeper alone in the box but the ex under-19 national custodian Nehal made an acrobatic save.
Rahmatganj equalised from a corner kick when Naimur Rahman Shahed’s shot took a deflection off Russel defender Kamal, who tried to save it with a header, to stun fellow goalkeeper Mamun Khan.
