Salahuddin re-elected as SAFF president
Dhaka, March 5: Kazi Salahuddin was unanimously re-elected as the president of the South Asian Football Federation in the Congress of the organization held at the Ruposhi Bangla Hotel, on Wednesday.
With Salahuddin having no candidate for the post of president there were voting for the three vice president post where Dasho Ugyen Tsechup Dorji of Bhutan, Syed Khadim Ali Shah of Pakistan and W Ranjit Rodrigo of Sri Lanka were elected. Alberto Colato is all set to retain the post of the general secretary for the next four years.
In a press conference held after the election Kazi Salahuddin vowed to make the SAFF stronger. “I am thankful to all my colleagues who has bestowed me with the responsibility again, I want to say that I look forward to attain more than what I have achieved in the past” said Salahudddin.
“Football in this part of the world needs the assistance of the government and I urge the government of all the SAFF members countries to step up to assist football and help it to reach new height, without the assistance of the government it is difficult to attain the target” said Salahuddin.
Makhdoom Syed Faisal Hayat, the president of Pakistan Football Federation said deep commitment towards the development of the sub-continent’s football was the reason of re-electing Salahuddin. “His commitment towards the development of South Asian football is above all doubt, he has vision and plans for the future, that’s why we retained the faith upon him” said the PFF president.
It was decided that the inaugural SAFF Club Championship will be held in August next as World Sports Group has completed the groundwork for the meet. SAFF will introduce the U-19 championship this year. The next SAFF Championship is scheduled to be held in India and SAFF has urged the All India Football Federation to take the initiatives about the finalizing the venue and the date.
