Jamal edge past Russell
Dhaka, March 17: Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club beat Sheikh Russell Krira Chakra 1-0 in the Nitol Tata Bangladesh Premier League at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Monday.
Haitian forward Sony Norde scored the all important goal in the 89th minute of the match.
Sheikh Russell's Haitian forward Pascal Millien had a chance to take the lead in the 20th minute of the match. Jamaican midfielder Ricardo Cousins delivered a lob to Pascal who shot the ball outside the right post having one on one situation with Jamal goalie Ziaur Rahman Zia.
Sheikh Jamal were very near to a score in the 25th minute but their Nigerian forward Emeca Darlington’s header went straight to Sk. Russell goalie Biplob on a cross off defender Md. Raihan from the left flank.
Pascal again squandered Russell’s best chance in the 41st minute as the Haitian's right footer went straight to goalkeeper Zia after capitalizing a back heel of Ricardo Cousins.
Haitian Sony Norde broke the deadlock and scored the winning goal for Jamal in the 89th minute with an angular placing shot from the box the ball fed by another Haitian Wedson Anselme. (1-0)
Just after scoring the goal Sony Norde was shown red card for turning off his jersey.
After the win, Jamal took their tally to 18 points from 8 matches while Russell remained their previous earning of 12 points from 9 matches.
