Dhaka, Apr 23: The defending champions Dhaka Abahani crushed Chittagong Abahani 6-2 in today’s lone match of the Citycell Bangladesh League at the Bangabandhu National Stadium. It was the 17th win for the league leaders in 18 matches, while their Chittagong name sakes secured 4 wins from same number of matches. With the day's win, the Dhaka giants moved to 52 points, whereas the port city outfit is at the 9th position with 17 points.
Abahani were dominating their rival from the very beginning of the match and they missed a couple of chances before Enamul finally breaking the deadlock in the 18th minute. He scored from a very good pass by Atiqur Rahman inside the penalty area.
Munna also missed a chance in the 29th minute and he compensated by scoring from Ujjal’s pass in the 36th minute.
Abahani's Ghanaian striker Sheriff Deen Mohammad joined with Mohammedan’s Ameli and Sheikh Russel’s Samir Omari as the highest scorer of the tournament by scoring in the 41st minute from his country mate Awudu Ibrahim’s forward pass. This was his 13th goal in this competition.
Awudu also scored in the first half’s stoppage time by entering into the penalty box dodging three defenders of CTG Abahani and he did not return in the second half as Abahani was comfortable 4-0 ahead.
The port city team’s striker Shakhawat Rony brought some consolation for his team when he converted a good pass by their Nigerian recruit Akinyele in the 70th minute.
Shakhawat, the only bright side of CTG Abahani today, scored again in the 86th minute just after Enamul scored 5th time for the Dhanmondi based team in the 85th minute.
Shohag who replaced Ujjal at the half time, he sealed the match by scoring from a 25 yard free kick, stunning the rival goalkeeper Azam, three minutes before the final whistle.
