Dhaka, March 27: Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited
finished at the top of Group B by goal difference as they drew with Abahani
Limited 1-1 in the second match of the days of Modhumoti Bank Independence Cup
Football at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Thursday.
The draw saw
Mohammedan earn four points and face Muktijoddha in the quarterfinals while Abahani will play their last eight match against Sheikh
Jamal.
Mohammedan went ahead
through striker Md. Zahid Hasan Amely in the 10th minute. Abahani
Ghanaian defender Samad Yousuf headed a ball to onrushing goalie Shahidul Alam Sohel but Amely
intercepted the ball and placed it into the far post. (1-0)
Mohammedan came close
to doubling the lead but Tawhidul Alam Sabuz’s header went wide of the side post
on a cross of winger Md. Zahid Hossain from the right.
Ghanaian midfielder
Awudu Ibrahim brought back Abahani in the match with an intelligent goal in the
53rd minute. Ghanaian forward Osei Morrison delivered a through pass
to his compatriot Awudu Ibrahim who entered the box and beat opponent goalie
Titumir Chowdhury with angular placing shot in the near post.

Patrick squandered a chance to score in 77th minute when the
Cameroonian forward failed to place a ball into the open net on a chip fed by Awudu Ibrahim from the
right.
