MSC beat Muktis 1-0
Dhaka, April 3: Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club moved into the semifinals of the Modhumoti Bank Independence Cup with a 1-0 win over Muktijoddha at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Thursday.
In the 32nd minute Mohammedans Nigerian defender Ubom Henry ‘s head on a Zahid Hossain corner returned from the Muktijoddha crosspiece.
Muktijoddha’s Nigerian forward Eleta Kingley was cursing his luck in the 35th minute as his angular shot from the left edge of the box missed the Mohammedan far post.
However Mohammedan’s Cameroonian defender Baybeck put his team ahead in the 44th minute heading the ball into the far post net on a free kick of Zahid Hossain (1-0).
Mohammedan piled up pressure after the break and Emily sent a low cross to Vincent Hemanta in the 77th minute but Vincent failed to flick the ball into the net.
In the dying minutes Muktijoddha forward Nkwocha Kinglesy saw his header on a cross of Eleta Kingsley fly past the sidepost
Mohammedan will face the winner of Sheikh Jamal and Dhaka Abahani 4th quarter-final in the semis.
