Soccer’s first final
Dhaka, April 8: Soccer Club, Feni reached the final of the Modhumoti Bank Independence Cup Football beating Brothers Union by 2-0 goals in the first semifinal at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Tuesday. It is the first major final of the Feni based team,
Brothers Union had a chance to move ahead but Nigerian forward Simon’s shot on through pass of midfielder Jewel Rana deflected off a Soccer defender and flew over the crossbar in the 11th minute.
Soccer Club also were near to score in the 36th minute of the match. Defender Ramjan Ali Mollah curved a corner in the middle of the box where Gambian defender Landing Darboe received and placed it to post but Brothers defender Yousuf Ali Khan saved it from the goalline.
Goalkeeper Md. Nehal saved Soccer Club in the 57th minute. Brothers Nigerian forward Simon took an angular shot from the box but goalie Nehal saved it driving to the right.
However, Gambian midfielder Mathew Mendy broke the deadlock in the 81st minute with a header on a side volley of Gambian forward Kabba Jobe. (1-0)
Substitute defender Abdullah Al-Mamun doubled the lead and sealed the victory for Soccer Club in the 85th minute. Gambian midfielder Chuka Charles shot took a deflection off the defence wall and landed in front of Mamun whose first shot was blocked by Brothers goalie, Mamun succeeded to slot the ball into the net in the second effort.
