Jamal beat Brothers 3-2
Dhaka, April 22: Sheikh Jamal beat Brothers Union by 3-2 goals in the second phase of the Bangladesh Premier Football League at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Tuesday.
Sheikh Jamal took the lead in the 17th minute off a penalty. Brothers defender Yusuf Ali Khan brought Jamal’s Haitian forward Wedson down in the D-box and Sony Norde scored from the penalty (1-0)
However Jamal’s lead stayed for only three minutes as Nigerian midfielder Simon Ezeodka scored an wonderful equalizer in the 20th minute. Brothers defender Rashedul Alam Moni curved a cross from the right flank and it was cleared by the Jamal defence, the ball flew to the top of box and Simon blasted a fierce left footer into the near post (1-1)
Six minutes into the second half Brothers shocked Jamal to take the lead. Defender Yasim missed the line of a regulation long ball and Nigerian forward Kester Akon took control before chipping it into the far post net (2-1)
Wedson brought Jamal back into the game with a superb solo effort in the 61st minute. Defying the attempted offside trap Wedson went past his marker and even Brothers goalie Shujon before drilling a low shot into the far post (2-2)
Brothers were letdown by their goalie Shujon in the 90th minute when he failed to grip a shot of Wedson. Shujon stopped the ball but lost his grip and the ball rolled into the net (3-2)
Jamal took their tally to 27 points from 11 matches while Brothers Union remained on their previous collection of 13 from the same number of matches.
