Brothers upset Russell
Dhaka, April 26: Brothers Union upset defending champions Sheikh Russell 1-0 in the Nitol-Tata Bangladesh Premier League at the Bangabandhu National Stadium On Saturday.
Brothers piled on pressure from the very beginning and in the 28th minute winger Rubel Miah saw his chip fisted by Russell goalie Biplob. Niger ian forward Kester Akon cut the ball back for Rubel.
In the injury time of the first half Kester Akon put Brothers ahead with an angular placing shot. Nigerian midfielder Simon Ezeodka took control of a ball ahead of Russell defender Reza and provided the square pass or Kester who completed the job cool headedly.
In the 57th minute Russell winger Shakil Ahmed’s head on a cross of Mithun Chowdhury missed the side post by a few inches.
In the 67th minute Mithun Chowdhury failed to flick the ball in after Anwar Hossain cut a low cross from the left flank.
Russell won four consecutive corners but failed to cash in.
Brothers Union took their tally to 16 points from 12 matches while Russell remained on their previous collection of 16 points from same number of matches.
