Dhaka, Apr 25: Muktijoddha Sangsad’s bid to avoid relegation received a boost when they recorded a crucial 1-0 win over Feni Soccer Club in their Citycell Bangladesh League match at the Feni stadium today.
National winger Kanchan scored the lone goal for Muktijoddha in the 75th minute as they moved to tenth place in the table with 17 points while Soccer Club remained at fourth position with 21 points. The Feni-based club had won the first leg 2-1.
Also today, Sheikh Russel blanked Farashganj 2-0 at the Bangabandhu National Stadium. Sheikh Russel’s Moroccan recruit Salah Maslouh scored the opener in the 53rd minute and local boy Rajon Miah netted the other in the 77th minute. With this victory Russel, who had also won the first-leg battle between the two, remained in the 3rd position with 43 points while Farashganj climbed down to 8th.
At the Sylhet Stadium, Shukhtara defeated home side Beanibajar 2-1 in a relegation zone match. Idris put Shukhtara ahead in the 42nd minute and Mehedi confirmed the victory in the 68th minute. Beanibajar’s Liberian striker scored a consolatory goal for his side.
In the day’s other match, Brothers Union and Chittagong Mohammedan shared points in a 1-1 draw at the M A Aziz stadium, Chittagong. Brothers’ Ghanaian recruit Enock Bentil shot the capital city side ahead in the 14th minute but Lamin Soumah equalised in the second half for the port city outfit. The first leg match between the two ended in a goalless draw.
