Dhaka, Apr 28: Mohammedan Sporting Club’s title hopes suffered a setback when they threw away a 2-0 lead to draw with Farashganj Sporting Club in today’s Bangladesh League match at the Bangabandhu National Stadium. After their fourth draw in nineteen matches the black and whites were in forty-nine points, six points behind the league leaders Dhaka Abahani who have played the same number of matches. On the other hand, after this surprising 2-2 draw Farashganj climbed up to the 7th position with eighteen points from nineteen matches.
The black and whites went to the break with 1-0 lead as Mamunul opened the scoring just two minutes before the half time. He got the ball when his Nigerian teammate Bukola’s effort was cleared by Farashganj’s defense and Mamun netted the ball. Mamun put an exquisite low drive into the far corner with his favorite left foot.
Bukola increased the lead for the league runners-ups’ while he headed home a chip by Wali in the 58th minute.
The day’s hero, Farashganj’s Kalu Johnson scored in the 78th minute from a counter attack beating the onrushing national goalkeeper Aminul with a powerful shot.
Kalu equalized in the 82nd minute from a penalty. The referee called for penalty when Farashganj’s Sabuj was pulled down from behind by Mohammedans’ Nigerian recruit Dami. The last minutes of the match was very exciting when the title contenders made some good attacks and claimed for penalty several times but their effort went in vain and the match was drawn.
