Russel seal 2nd round slot in AFC Presidents Cup
Dhaka, May 11: Defending Bangladesh Premier League Champions Sheikh Russel moved into the second round of the AFC Presidents Cup with a 4-0 win over Ugyen Academy of Bhutan at the Shugathdasa Stadium on Sunday.
With the win Russel finished at the top of the group A with seven points.
Mithun Chowdhury scored a brace in the 21st and 88th while Haitian forward Pascal Millien and Shakil Ahmed scored the other two in the 14th and 28th minutes.
Russel drew goalless with KRL Club of Pakistan in their first match but found the winning rhythm in the second match where they thrashed Sri Lanka Air Force 5-0. Mithun scored two in that match while Shakil, Pascal and Sobuj Kumar Biswas netted the other three.
Russel became the first Bangladeshi team to reach the second round of the AFC Presidents Cup.
BFF President Kazi Salahuddin congratulated Sheikh Russel over their achievement in Sri Lanka.
